My husband, Nate, and I are lucky enough to have the kinds of jobs where we can travel frequently, either alone or together. Leaving our little guy behind with his gramma is always enough of a present for him, but I am insistent on spoiling him when I leave town, regardless. I learned a few trips ago that packing a large plastic helicopter in your carry on is a huge pain in the butt - so we recently started a tradition of buying a kids book that takes place where we are! Small and compact, and it gives us a chance to explain where we have been from a kids point of view. Most kids and baby boutiques carry tons of great regional books, and it gives you a chance to check out a local business! And if you've forgotten to make time to shop, most airports have kids books in their magazine section!
